Juan Jose Mosalini y su Gran Orquesta de Tango - The Most Important Tango Orchestra in Europe

Many critics and tango aficionados consider him to be the greatest tango musician to be seen live today: Juan José Mosalini. The Argentinean bandoneonist can look back at a career of almost 40 years, during which he has played with Argentina’s best orchestras and soloists: Susana Rinaldi, Leopoldo Federico, Astor Piazzolla, José Basso, Horacio Salgan, Osvaldo Pugliese, Daniel Binelli, and so on. He has composed film music, published collections of exercises for the bandoneon and become the first professor for bandoneon in France, at the same time as continuing to work with jazz musicians.

But deep down in his musician’s soul, J.J. Mosalini has always stayed a tango musician and so, at the peak of his career, he has decided to realise his innermost wish: a large tango ensemble such as was typical in Argentina in the 40’s and 50’s. However, it is not nostalgia that takes central position, but a review of 100 years of tango history and a resurrection of the golden age of tango. As one critic said: “Mosalini’s tango orchestra – three bandoneons, four fiddles, one viola, a cello, a double bass and a piano – captivates and enthrals with its razor-sharp intonation, feather-light and elegant phrasing and a feel for rhythm which would be befitting of some of the “real” symphony orchestras.”
